Eleanor White

Eleanor runs her own art school in Ullapool where she teaches a wide range of courses in Fine Art, and is also involved in local schools and in the community. She has taught on the Foundation Course at the Leith School of Art in Edinburgh. She is an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who has been corning here since these courses began eleven years ago.

Joanna Howes

Joanna is a practicing artist and art tutor who has exhibited her work widely throughout North Yorkshire. Her interest lies in the expressive and atmospheric use of colour, the evocative nature of textured surface and the arrangement of shape and space in her paintings, which are often pushed to the point of abstraction. She has a degree in art and design from Lancaster University and a post-graduate teaching equivalent from Brighton.

A MODERN TAKE ON LANDSCAPE April 9th/10th Wed/Thur


Ian Scott Massie is an artist and musician who lives in Masham. His paintings appear in galleries all over Britain and his work is shown internationally. As well as his music Scott’s career includes extensive art-tuition experience, designing greeting cards and writing the monthly art business column for the Artist and Illustrator magazine. His approach to painting is an attempt to capture the personality of the landscape by a free and expressive style. His use of colour and tone, coupled with a limited palette, lend his work a lively and distinctive air.

Laura Shipley

Laura works extensively with mixed media including such diverse materials as wood, paper, tile cement, wax and recycled materials. She is a tutor for Rural Arts and exhibits her work in local galleries. She is presently renovating a property in Italy for art holidays.

Tony Mosley

Different approaches will be covered as you practice techniques on your own projects around the grounds with both one-on-one and group-based tutor support. Tony is renowned for his clear, jargon-free presentation style and for getting information and techniques across in a friendly, supportive manner. The elements underlying any method or technique will be clarified so that you understand how and why it works.

Bridget Gillespie

Bridget Gillespie has been a Botanical Illustrator for over 12 years after taking a degree in Graphic Design. She has had several exhibitions of her own work in Cambridge, Essex, Durham, Malton and Helmsley. In 2002 she exhibited at the R.H.S, in London where she was awarded a Gold Medal. Commissions now form an increasing part of her work and have included several for the R.H.S.

Peter Kearney

Peter trained as a book illustrator and has taught art and design for many years. His courses at Old Sleningford are very popular and helpful.

Robin Furness

Robin lectures for NADFAS and the NACF on the history of open-air painting and the artists Alfred Munnings, Edward Seago and Harry Becker.

Tony Hogan

Noted for his easy and relaxing manner of teaching, Tony will guide you through the basics of subject selection and composition through blocking in and developing your work. Weather permitting you will be working outdoors as well as in the studio.

He is an experienced tutor of international repute who works in all mediums and runs the “Art Breaks in Yorkshire” art centre on the Yorkshire Wolds. He has produced the pastel illustrations for the Derwent pastel leaflet and gives demonstrations and workshops at exhibitions and art societies all over the country. Tony is a professional artist for the S.A.A. and a lecturer for the Open College of the Arts. His website is www.hoganart.co.uk

Angela McCall

Angela has always had a passion for art and creativity, and has a flair for textile design which she studied at the Birmingham and Coventry Colleges of Art. She exhibits throughout the country and is a full member of the British Watercolour Society and a Fellow of the International Guild of Artists.

Miranda Legard

Miranda did a foundation Course at Cambridge College of Arts and her B.A. in Fine Arts at Hull University, she then gained a place on a post-graduate course at the Boston Museum School in the U.S.A. and later at the American Academy for traditional oil painting in Florence. She has had two one-man shows at the Raphael Valls Gallery in London and has exhibited in other galleries and had many commissions.
